31 May 2023

From October 13 to 22, the 14th edition of the Michal Spisak International Music Competition in the specialties of trumpet, horn and trombone will be held at the Zagłębie Palace of Culture in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Young instrumentalists from Poland and around the world can register their participation until June 16.

The Michal Spisak International Music Competition is an event dedicated to instrumentalists of various specialties up to the age of 30. They come from all corners of the world to Dabrowa Górnicza to compete against each other in an unusual and friendly atmosphere in three instrumental specialties, changing during successive editions. The festival is co-organized by the Zagłębie Culture Palace with the city of Dąbrowa Górnicza and the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. It is the artists of this academy (Academic Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Miroslaw Jacek Blaszczyk, Magdalena Lisak – piano) who will grace this year’s inaugural Concert opening the competition struggle. In the competition, held as part of the 3rd International Michal Spisak Festival, musicians in the specialties of trumpet, horn and trombone will present themselves before an international jury chaired by Dr. Michał Mazurkiewicz of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. They will compete for financial prizes with a total pool of 90 thousand zloty, the Michal Spisak statuette and the opening of doors to a musical career.

The competition consists of three stages of auditions, and the last one is an evening concert with the Zabrze Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Slawomir Chrzanowski. It will select the winners, who will perform with the orchestra again – on October 22 during the Laureate Concert.

Less than a month remains to register your participation in this international competition – the deadline is June 16 this year.

More information and a contact form are available at spisakfestival.palac.art.pl. Festival events also include exhibitions and accompanying concerts. We will hear and see, among others, outstanding artists of Silesian stages as well as Krzysztof Herdzin, Adam Woronowicz, and in the “Master’s Concert” foreign jurors Adán Delgado Illada (trumpet), Boštjan Lipovšek (horn) and György Gyivicsàn (trombone).

The festival was covered by the Honorary Patronages of Marshal Jakub Chełstowski, JM Rector of the Academy of Music Prof. Władysław Szymański and Mayor of Dąbrowa Górnicza Marcin Bazylak.
The project was co-financed by funds from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for Promotion of Culture.
