Zhu Pengxi

Viola / China

Violist Pengxi Zhu, a recipient of the prestigious Kovner Fellowship at The Juilliard School, graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music and is currently studying with Professor Carol Rodland at Juilliard. Throughout his musical journey, Zhu has garnered numerous first prizes, including those of the 29th Young Musician International Competition “Città di Barletta” (2019), the Prokofiev International Music Competition (2021), and the Max Bruch International Music Competition (2024). In February 2025, he won First Prize in Juilliard’s Hindemith Concert Competition and subsequently performed Hindemith’s Kammermusik No. 5 at Alice Tully Hall under the baton of conductor Jeffrey Milarsky.

With extensive experience in both orchestral and chamber music, Zhu has performed with the National Youth Orchestra of China, served as principal violist of the Macao Youth Orchestra, and earned First Prize in both the Viola Solo and Ensemble categories at the 4th Singapore Raffles International Music Festival (2017). As a soloist, he has appeared with the Chongqing Philharmonic Orchestra, the Shanxi Symphony Orchestra (with conductor Jinyi Jiang), and the Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra (with conductor Lin Chen). He has also given numerous solo recitals in venues such as the International Center of Music and Arts in Beijing, the Chongqing Philharmonic Factory Art Space, and Cavendo Tutus Concert Hall, among others.
