Magdalena Duś

Magdalena Duś is a pianist and chamber musician. Since 2012, she has been teaching chamber music at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, which she graduated from with distinction and excellent grade in the piano class of Prof. Hanna Kryjak.

In 2007–2020, she received several dozen prizes and distinctions for accompanying pianist in Polish nationwide and international competitions, including the Individual Prize of the Head of the Artistic Education Centre for outstanding contribution in the development of artistic education in Poland. As a chamber pianist, she has performed at such festivals as Colours of Poland, Mazurkas of the World, Plus pour la Culture (Luxembourg), Summerwinds Munsterland (Germany), St. Petersburg International Festival, SaxFest (Vienna) and Artenetra (France). She has cooperated with Młoda Muzyka Śląska and Cultura Animi foundations, as well as with Uwagi wARTe and Zdolni Do Wszystkiego art societies.

In 2021, her album Malinconico recorded with the saxophonist Bartek Duś was released by Classic Clips (Germany). The cooperation of the duo called MagDuś resulted in the 2nd prize at the 18th International Chamber Music Competition in Łódź (April 2013) and 2nd prize at the International Competition for Chamber Ensembles Salieri-Zinetti in Verona (September 2014, Italy). In 2017, the MagDuś duo was rewarded with the Resident Artist status by the Institute for the Promotion and Dissemination of Music SILESIA under the programme of the Institute of Music and Dance. Together with a number of composers, the ensemble is also developing its contemporary music repertoire, including chamber works by Wojciech Ziemowit (Trajktoria Afektywna), Przemysław Szczotka (Simbiosis) and Hanna Kulenta (Double Concerto for Saxophone, Piano and Orchestra).

The meeting of Magdalena Duś with the clarinettist Arkadiusz Adamski and the cellist Marcin Zdunik resulted in the recording of an album with chamber works by Johannes Brahms for DUX in 2015.

Since 2017, the pianist has been cooperating with the oboist David Walter, professor of the Paris Conservatory, e.g. as a piano teacher during master classes. The cooperation between both musicians led to the release of the album entitled Eclats Romantique (DUX, 2018), with several chamber works arranged for oboe and piano, including the famous Sonata in A major for Violin and Piano by Cesar Franck.

Magdalena Duś has been invited to participate in projects with many foreign soloists, such as Tomoko Akasaka, Christopher Hartmann, Christian Hommel, Michael Kofler, Janos Balint, Florent Heau, Wenzel Fuchs, Arno Bornkamp and Vincent David.
