CALENDAR/PROGRAM AND ARTISTS

“Spisak and friends” is the main title of the Second Michał Spisak International Festival, which will take place from 6 August to 23 September in Dąbrowa Górnicza! The program will include chamber open-air concerts, symphonic concerts, thematic exhibitions, a city game, and a theatre performance inspired by the figure of the patron!

Festival schedule:

Series of concerts “w Zieloną gramy” / “in the Green we play,” Dance Circle in Zielona Park

All-access concerts featuring classical music in a light, pleasant and intimate setting, presented by talented musicians in the Zielona Park Dance Circle in Dąbrowa Górnicza.

6 August 5:00 p.m. – Adam Snopek: Stand-up at the piano (MOVED TO Zagłębie Palace of Culture)

13 August 5:00 p.m. – Celtic Triangle (MOVED TO Zagłębie Palace of Culture)

20 August 5:00 p.m. – Silesian Chamber Players Quintet (MOVED TO Zagłębie Palace of Culture)

27 August 5:00 p.m. – 404C Quartet


14 September 6:00 p.m. – concert to mark the anniversary of Michał Spisak’s birth, Theatre Hall, Zagłębie Palace of Culture 

A unique concert consisting of works by Michał Spisak, Wojciech Kilar and Grażyna Bacewicz, among others, performed by AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy, the Cracow Brass Quintet, and the Messages Quartet. The event will be led by Ewa Niewiadomska.


16 September 7:00 p.m. – premiere of the studio audiovisual realisation of the concert entitled: ‘French Connections’. Online event (YouTube)

The premiere performance of the audiovisual studio realisation of Michał Spisak’s Concerto for bassoon and orchestra, interpreted by Sophie Dervaux and accompanied by the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice under Jurek Dybał performed at the headquarters of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.


18 September 5:00 p.m. “Kochani Moi!” / “My Dear!” – a musical and literary evening, Stage of the Theatre Hall of the Zagłębie Palace of Culture

An atmospheric chamber concert with the audience on the main stage of the Zagłębie Palace of Culture, during which we will hear the Airis String Quartet, soprano Ewa Biegas, and pianist Grzegorz Biegas. The musical event will be combined with the reading of fragments of Michał Spisak’s letters to friends performed by Zbigniew Zamachowski. The event will be led by Ewa Niewiadomska.


23 September 7:00 p.m. – final concert, Theatre Hall of the Zagłębie Palace of Culture (TICKETS)

The winner of the 13th Michał Spisak International Music Competition, Joana Soares, accompanied by the Silesian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Yaroslav Shemet in a concert consisting of classical, contemporary and film music. The event will be led by Ewa Niewiadomska.

9 September – 28 October – Exhibition entitled: “Michał Spisak and Friends at the Warsaw Autumn Festivals”.

An exhibition showcasing the presence of Michał Spisak and his friends – Grażyna Bacewicz, Wojciech Kilar and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki – at the Warsaw Autumn festivals, comprising the archival resources of the Polish Composers’ Union, a co-organiser of the exhibition.

10 September 11:00 a.m. City game entitled: “Znak szczególny” / “Special mark”

Based on the plot of the crime novel “Sidła” / “Snare” and the diaries entitled “Znak szczególny” / “Special mark” as well as the musical plots and life story of Grażyna Bacewicz – a friend of Michał Spisak – a “live” game will be created, which will take place on 10 September in Dąbrowa Górnicza. The game will also have its own electronic version in the form of questing.

16 September 6:00 p.m. – performance entitled: “Theatrical Concertino. Michał Spisak: Facts and Fictions”.

A theatre play based on the biography of the festival’s patron Michał Spisak.
