Piotr Janosik, PhD, Prof. at AM

Deputy Chairman of the Jury
Cello / Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice

Born in Poznań. He graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw in the class of Professor Kazimierz Michalik. In his final year at the academy, he began his cooperation with the Silesian Quartet, with which he performs all over the world. The ensemble has performed in many renowned halls, including Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London, Konzerthaus in Vienna, deSingel in Antwerp, Schauspielhaus in Berlin, Tivoli in Copenhagen, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Carnegie Hall in New York, Jordan Hall in Boston, Hoam Art Hall in Seoul and Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico.

The Silesian Quartet has more than 60 albums to its credit, 10 of which have received the Fryderyk Award. In 2017, the ensemble received the prestigious Gramophone Award for its recording of the complete quartets of Grażyna Bacewicz, and in 2019 it was honoured with the Coryphaeus of Polish Music statuette. It has been awarded, among others, the Gold Cross of Merit and the gold medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis.

Since 2003, Piotr Janosik has been teaching a cello class at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.
