Horn / The Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland - Deputy Chairman

Graduate of the Faculty of Instrumental Music of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice in the French horn class of Docent Adam Przybyla and in the chamber music class of Professor Andrzej Janicki. Since 1980 he has been a French horn player – soloist at the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. As a musician of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, he gave many concerts in Poland and abroad, he participated in archival recordings for the Polish Radio and recordings of works of world literature (over 120 albums), performing solo parts of the French horn in works by Mahler, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Wagner and others. From 1982 to 1988 he worked with the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra, and from 1985 to 1987 he was the principal French horn player in the Polish Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonia Varsovia”. With these orchestras he went on many foreign tours, collaborating with the most eminent conductors and soloists. From 1995 to 2004 he worked at the Karol Lipinski Academy of Music in Wroclaw, and since 2001 he has been teaching at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. Students from Wieslaw Grochowski’s French horn class have won a number of prizes and distinctions at music competitions, and his graduates work in symphony orchestras and opera houses across Poland. Wieslaw Grochowski has repeatedly been invited to participate in the jury of national and international auditions and music competitions of students of brass instrument classes, as well as workshops for French horn players.
