Born on the slopes of Mount Etna, Italian cellist Francesco Angelico began studying the cello at the age of twelve. He trained under distinguished cellists Enrico Dindo and Giovanni Sollima, and is currently completing his Master of Arts at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, studying with Stefan Kropfitsch.
In 2023, he was selected by Riccardo Muti as Principal Cellist of the Luigi Cherubini Orchestra.
Francesco made his solo debut in 2022 at Teatro alla Scala in Milan (Sala Esedra) and at Teatro La Fenice in Venice (Sale Apollinee). He has since performed at prestigious venues and festivals including the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Ravenna Festival, Noto Music Festival, Ascoli Piceno Festival, Amici della Musica di Verona, Associazione Musicale Etnea, Fenice Sacay (Osaka), and Muzieksaal (Tilburg).
In 2024, he appeared as part of the chamber music season at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, 1 performing in Sala Petrassi alongside artists such as Andrea Lucchesini, Sonig Tchakerian, and Franco Petracchi.
That same year, he premiered Morfemi, a concerto for cello and orchestra by A. Amici, receiving acclaim for the depth and emotional intensity of his performance.
Francesco’s debut recording was released in 2025 by Movimento Classical, featuring cello sonatas by Debussy, Casella, and Pilati (the latter in a world premiere recording). In the same year he was selected for taking part in the 4th David Geringas International Cello Competition.
He has honed his artistry through masterclasses with internationally renowned cellists including Frans Helmerson, Mario Brunello, Jens Peter Maintz, and Mischa Maisky.
