Oliver Uszyński

Clarinet / Poland

Oliver Uszynski was born in Los Angeles (USA) in 1998. He started playing the clarinet when he was 8 years old.

In 2017 he completed his preparatory studies in clarinet at the University of the Arts in Berlin. Since then he has been studying clarinet with Prof. Reinhard Wieser and composition with Prof. Dirk D’Ase at the MUK Music and Art Private University of the City of Vienna. In June 2021 Oliver accomplished his Bachelor’s degree studies with honourable award.

He has won several 1st prizes at Jugend musiziert, 2nd prize at the Rising Star Grand Prix 2017, youth composition prize of the Berlin Philharmonic for the string quartet, and prizes for compositions at Jeunesses Musicales (6 times). In 2020 he won the 1st prize in the Prof. Dichler-Competition.

His composition Deception for solo clarinet was played in the Bechsteincenter Berlin, in the Red Townhall of Berlin, and in the German Opera in Berlin. He won a prize at the Wien Modern Festival in Vienna for his clarinet solo piece Power. The composition Cleopatra Suite written for the clarinet ensemble NA + 5 was premiered in October 2020.

He is active as a clarinettist in the MUK Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Young Philharmonic, in the New Vienna Symphony Orchestra and in many chamber music projects.
