Wrona Antoni

Cello / Poland

Born in 2003, cellist Antoni Wrona is currently a student at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar, studying under Prof. Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. He completed his bachelor’s degree at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where he studied with Prof. Dr. Hab. Tomasz Strahl and Prof. Dr. Hab. Marcin Zdunik. In 2025, he became a scholarship holder of the “Elite” program in Paris, where he works with Prof. Henri Demarquette.

He is a laureate of numerous competitions, including the 3rd prize at the 12th Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition in Warsaw (2024), as well as the winner of the 5th National Cello and Double Bass Tournament in Warsaw (2024), the 11th National Cello Competition named after Dezyderiusz Danczowski in Poznań (2023), the National Cello Competition of the Centre for Artistic Education in Warsaw (2019), and the 12th International Jan Vychytil Cello Competition in Prague (2018).

A recipient of the “Młoda Polska” scholarship (2020), he has also been awarded the Minister of Culture Prize six times and was a scholarship holder of the National Institute of Music and Dance as part of the National Recovery Plan (2024). In the 2023/2024 season, he was a member of the PRO Hashtag Ensemble Academy. He was nominated for the “Koryfeusz Muzyki Polskiej 2024” award in the Discovery of the Year category and for the “Polityka Passports” award in 2025 in the Classical Music category.

He has performed in venues such as the National Philharmonic, the NOSPR headquarters, the National Forum of Music in Wrocław, and the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music. He has collaborated with orchestras including the National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, NOSPR, and NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra, among others.

In 2020, he recorded an audiovisual performance of Mikołaj Górecki’s Elegy with the Zielona Góra Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ryszard Zimak. In 2024, during the “Bridges” festival, he recorded Chopin’s Sonata in G minor and Sarasate’s Gypsy Melodies with pianist Bishara Haroni.

Since 2025, thanks to the courtesy of the SINFONIMA Stiftung in Mannheim, he plays on an instrument crafted by Nicola Amati in 1636 in Cremona.
