The 11th Michał Spisak International Music Competition will be remembered for years not only thanks to the music that we will be able to hear from 14th to 23rd September in the Zagłębie Palace of Culture, but also thanks to record in the number of applications. This year’s edition of the competition was attended by 140 young musicians from Poland and abroad.
143 musicians, including 53 non-Polish from 18 countries, among others from Israel, Japan, Singapore, Brazil and USA. If you divide this number into specialties, the viola will be played by 43 people, the oboe by 64, and the violin by 36 contenders to the title of master of the instrument. This is just a preview of how fierce competition awaits us in September, because only 12 best musicians can receive Michał Spisak’s statuette. However, the number of participants also guarantees the emotions, various interpretations of pieces and beautiful sounds that will come to the theater hall of the PKZ. The contest will start traditionally on September 14th (the anniversary of M. Spisak’s birthday), when the inaugural concert will be performed by the NOSPR under the baton of the maestro Boon Hua Liena together with Aleksander Kobus – the winner of the previous edition of the competition – and the pianist Anna Górecka. Like the rest of the competition, the inaugural concert, including the three final concerts and the concert of the winners, is open to the public. The finale of musical struggles will be a concert of laureates with the participation of the Zabrze Philharmonic Hall under the direction of Sławomir Chrzanowski. The organizers of the event are Dąbrowa Górnicza Palace, the Zagłębie Palace of Culture and the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.
