The latest information about the competition

On November 19, 2020 the mayor of the city of Dąbrowa Górnicza appointed professor Roman Widaszek for the position of Artistic Director of the 13th Michał Spisak International Music Competition.

Professor Roman Widaszek is a lecturer at the Academy of Music in Katowice, where he was appointed Rector’s Proxy for the Inter-faculty Pedagogical Study. An excellent virtuoso of clarinet and a chamber musician, whose achievements include a soloist cooperation with leading Polish orchestras and chamber formations, as well as a number of phonographic recordings. Professor Widaszek was a member of the jury of many competitions; he is an organizer of master classes and a cyclical music event organized in Katowice.

The new director replaces profesor Zygmunt Tlatlik – a distinguished initiator and a long-term artistic director of the competition, a great supporter of the promotion of Michał Spisak’s work.

The inaugural concert – on September 14, 2021 – will grace with the presence of Jerzy Semkow Polish Sinfonia Iuventus Orchestra conducted by Marek Wroniszewski.

The competition in three categories of woodwind instruments: oboe, clarinet, bassoon will take place in three stages, and will be coped by the Concert of Laureates on September 23, 2021. The winners will be accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of Zabrze Philharmonic conducted by Sławomir Chrzanowski.

Chamber concerts, presenting a wide cross-sectional repertoire will be a novelty. The competition will be accompanied by a number of events that will provide the public of the city and the region, as well as the Internet user community, with entertainment in various artistic and popularized forms.

The city of Dąbrowa Górnicza and the cultural institutions and sport associations of Dąbrowa have signed up to join the activities promoting the festival and its outstanding patron.
