Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my pleasure to invite you to the 5th Michał Spisak International Music Competition.
During the competition, as every year, young instrumentalists stand up to artistic achievements of an outstanding composer born in Dąbrowa Górnicza. This year they present their skills at specialties: trumpet, horn, trombone. For participants revealing their talent and skills, the competition is a unique opportunity to stand on the threshold of career. That is why I am extremely happy that the beginning of their success may be an encounter with the music of an exceptional man from Dąbrowa Górnicza.
On behalf of the organisers I warmly invite all the music lovers, both those who know Michał Spisak’s artistic achievements and those who wish to get acquainted with his work, to participate in this great cultural event.
Zbigniew Podraza
Mayor of Dąbrowa Górnicza
As every year, September in Dąbrowa Górnicza is connected with the Michał Spisak International Music Competition. The central figures of this year’s competition, once again, are brass instruments like no other connected with the music tradition of Silesia and Zagłębie. For music lovers this will be an opportunity to pay attention to today’s potential of the French horn, trombone and trumpet as well as to look closer at the stages of achieving the mastery of performance.
Every time the competition rivalry arouses emotions, various opinions, often contradictory in relation to the jury verdict; however, this is fully understandable considering such immeasurable art like music. An additional asset of the competition is competitors’ young age, which offers exceptional energy, sponta- neity of musical expression and at the same time striving after perfectionism in performance.
The Academy of Music in Katowice, as a coorganiser, has special tasks as far as the artistic part is concerned, especially in selection of the programme or names of jurors. Every time there are discussions on an interesting list of pieces of music, which will reveal performing skills of those best. Outstanding personalities in given dis- ciplines are put forward so that verdicts of the competition commission are accurate.
Once again we are grateful to the city of Dąbrowa Górnicza and its authorities for maintaining the tradition of the com- petition and undertaking the effort to organise it. However, I am convinced that the high culture, not making quick profits, in the long run, brings the city a lot more important benefits because it places Dąbrowa Górnicza among the world cities, at which big international competitions are organised. Contrary to appearances, there are not many of them.
I wish all of us, and music lovers in particular, a lot of musical impressions and pleasure of listening to music not through loudspeakers, not artificially enhanced and modified but natural and live.
