Graduate of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice in Professor R. Siwek’s trombone class. He honed his skills at masterclasses conducted by: C. Lindberg, J. Alessi, W. Marsalis, among others. He has been a trombonist at the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and a member of the orchestra’s trombone quartet since 1979. He has collaborated with many orchestras and musical ensembles such as: National Philharmonic, Sinfonia Varsovia, Sinfonietta Cracovia, and most Polish philharmonics. He has performed at, among others : Wiener Musikverein – Austria, Berliner Philharmonie – Germany, Concertgebouw – Netherlands. He participated in many festivals such as: “Warsaw Autumn” Festival, “Wratislavia Cantans” Festival, Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Music Festival. He has cooperated with such eminent conductors as C. Abbado, L. Bernstein, L. Mazeel, and authorities of the musical world, e.g.: M. Argerich, S. Mutter, M. Roztropowicz, W. Lutoslawski, K. Penderecki and others. He has made numerous recordings of archival music for the Polish Radio, television programmes, CDs, as well as film and pop music, which have received prestigious awards, including the Grand Prix du Disque and Diapason d`Or 1992. His solo album was released in 2020. He also has an album of chamber music to his credit. He is invited as a lecturer, soloist and chamber musician to international conferences, scientific sessions and masterclasses (Poland, Germany, Czech Republic, Ukraine). He regularly participates in juries of international and national competitions (Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine). His students and pupils are winners of the highest places at international and national competitions, while his graduates work in leading Polish and foreign orchestras and music ensembles. He is a consultant (since 1995) of the CEA (Art Education Centre) in Warsaw and an expert of MENiS (the Ministry of National Education and Sports) in commissions for professional promotions of teachers. Co-founder (2005) and then President of Polskie Stowarzyszenie Puzonistów I Tubistów (the Polish Association of Trombonists and Tubists) for two terms. Since 2001, he has been a co-organiser of successive editions of the International Interpretative Brasswind Instrument Competition Brno (Czech Republic). Zdzislaw Stolarczyk is a Professor teaching trombone at the ZPSM (State Music Schools Complex) in Bielsko-Biala (since 1985), at the Academy of Music in Cracow (since 1998) and at the F. Chopin University of Music in Warsaw (since 2015). Since 2020 he has been the Head of the Chair of Brass Instruments at the Academy of Music in Cracow. He has been awarded a number of prizes including the Silver and Bronze Cross of Merit, the Gloria Artis Silver Medal, and the Medal of the Commission for National Education.
